Hello blogging world! Wow, how long has it been? Almost a month since posting, where has the time gone?
Oh yeah, well I’ve spent it mostly working.. we finally had our housewarming party, and I’ve actually had the last few days off to chill out and get things done around the house but…
I had no internet because we are getting gas heat installed and the utility workers cut our cable line while digging in our front yard… Whoops!
Anyway, it’s back now and if you can’t tell by the excited tone in my typing voice.. projects are in FULL SWING at this northwest home…. and my goal is to post at least once a week showing what we’ve done so far 🙂
A few weeks ago, I made it a mission to finally paint the kitchen.
I don’t know how I waited so long (two months… of this ugly, ugly teal) but maybe it was the same reason I haven’t posted in a month.. life happens sometimes.
Here is the teal, I’ve tried to take a few pictures at different times of the day to showcase the before color.. who knows how long ago the previous owners had painted.. but clearly long enough to leave soot marks from the fireplace where their pictures used to be….. Yikes.
Did this teal used to be all the rage?
They liked it enough to have it be the color of the kitchen walls, sun room door, and the kitchen ceiling…
A teal ceiling…
I think that’s what pushed it over the edge for me, it was all teal and I was going to lose my mind.
Here’s how the teal meshed with the rest of our kitchen.. and by meshed I mean clashed.
And since this the first time I’ve featured them, how about my kitchen cabinets! 😉
The very first time I saw them I couldn’t wait to paint them white..
But I actually love this original look more and more the longer we’ve been here.
They will probably be white someday but I would love to hear your opinions as well!
Yikes yikes yikes.. Tons of colors that look weird together. We have since whitewashed our fireplace too. I will be sharing on the blog soon 🙂
My grandpa has painted on the side for many years after he retired to keep himself busy. He loves helping out and he jumped at the chance to paint our kitchen for us.
Plus I love my grandpa and think it is super cool to know he painted it for us. It’s the little things.
I was able to catch him in the act on my lunch break, at this point he finished painting the ceiling white.
The paint color I chose was legitimately called Ceiling White in a satin finish. We used this for the door to the sun room as well.
The wall color is called Charcoal Blue in a semigloss finish. We had a local paint store match a color swap Jason and I found a few months ago at Home Depot.
The look of one wall painted and one wall not is pretty interesting.. two tone wall colors anyone? 😉
A few other future projects for the kitchen:
- the corner cabinet with the microwave will disappear to build a breakfast nook in the corner.
- the wall to the right will hold a magnificent coffee bar with storage
More pictures of my kitchen are coming soon when I post pictures of my Spring Home Tour.
Thanks so much for looking today! How do you guys think it turned out?
