When you’re on a budget (or trying to be!), the best kind of home decor is the kind that costs next to nothing and is really easy to recreate, even for the average decorator with no fancy tools necessary.
Unless you would call Microsoft Word a fancy tool! I was blown away when I realized how easy it was to create unique and fun bunting banners in Microsoft Word.
Originally, I wanted to make a banner that said “April Showers” but being that April is almost half way over, I wanted to make something still applicable heading into May.
Heading into May…. Ah, I had to type it again because it’s getting to be one of my second favorite time of year (Fall is first)
The months leading into summer are always a great time for me, maybe because there’s always summer to look forward to. Warmer weather, trips to the beach, camping.. marshmallows…
I’m getting carried away.
But anyway, April is also another time to be optimistic about the next few months to come, regardless of how much rain it dumps on you.
After all, April showers bring May flowers and that, my friends, is the inspiration for today’s banner.

What you’ll need:
- Printer/access to local printing store
- Hole punch
It’s super easy! I decided to keep the background white and use floral clip art to bring it to life with some color.
I also don’t have a color printer at home! I consider that a fancy tool 😉
My alternative was uploading my word document to staples.com and ordering it on a 32 pound stock paper. It cost me less than $5 and you can choose which local branch to pick it up at.
Here is my document all printed out
And here it is cut out and hole punched
Isn’t it pretty cute??
I can’t believe the flower graphics were free clip art on Microsoft word. I searched for “botanical” in clip art, if you’d like to find the same ones.
My banner looks adorable hanging from my mantel. I just painted it white last weekend to compliment my fireplace whitewashing.
Shop my mantel:
Square chalkboard – Target $10
Gold bunny – Hobby Lobby $5
Teal Lantern – Target $10
Vase – local thrift store $1
Flowers pink and yellow – Dollar Store $2 total
Watering can – Target $5
I should probably update my chalkboard, but that new house excitement hangs around for awhile
Let’s see what April Showers bring, hopefully it’s nothing but wonderful things for you 🙂
