Our kitchen got a fairly nice upgrade this weekend when we installed our new FREE fridge! How did we get a fridge for free you might ask? It turns out my boyfriend’s brother’s neighbor got a new fridge and gave his old one to my boyfriend’s brother, who didn’t have a need for it, so in turn gave it to us!
Well his old fridge is definitely an upgrade for us and I couldn’t be happier! The saying is true: IT’S ALL ABOUT WHO YOU KNOW 😉
Here is our new fridge in all it’s glory:
Now let’s take a step back and see how it was before, what we had to do to make room for it, and also some future kitchen planning.
The ‘before’ fridge came with our house and is mediocre at best. I remember touring our house before we bought it and thinking ‘wow, this is the smallest fridge I’ve seen in my life’
NOT a good thing when you are only 5’4″ and you are taller than you’re own fridge! Haha
Since the fridge was so short, we had to cut out a cabinet so our new fridge would have enough space.
Shoutout to Jason’s brother for helping us with that one! (Hi Trevor!)
Once the cabinet was out, we began moving all the food from the old fridge to the new one.
(Side note: this is also a good time to note the expiration dates while moving food to make sure you’re not hanging on to grossness)
When moving the food, I got the opportunity to snap this beautiful side by side comparison.
Here’s how our new fridge fits in the space. I definitely need to clean the stainless steel. If you have any best practices, let me know.
Now that the cabinet is gone, we still have a little empty space atop the fridge that looks too empty for my liking.
My plan is to build a white shelf in the middle of the space and have a cute little open shelf to display things. It’s gonna be so cute!
Having our new fridge in the space is really helping me envision the future of our kitchen.
A kitchen plan I’ve had forever is to paint the cabinets white and swap out the hardware. I’m currently just waiting for the weather to warm up so I can paint them outside and not have to wait ten years for it to dry. (#pacificnorthwestproblems)
Also I’m aware our floors are dirty in these pictures. Moving around appliances has a way of making the floor acquire nastiness. It is all swept now. Don’t worry.
I do have plans to change the kitchen flooring as well. I found the perfect faux wood laminate flooring that looks like it will flow nicely with the original hardwood floors we have throughout the house. Here’s the link if you’d like to see and a picture below.
Given the square feet of the kitchen, it’s going to cost us about $360 for the new floor. Not bad! Should be totally worth it.
