It’s safe to say my thrifted hutch is my favorite piece to decorate.
As soon as the Christmas decor was cleared out, things were looking pretty blank-slated.
It wasn’t long after the post-holiday bareness, I started dressing it up for the months ahead. My original plan was to make it all about Valentine’s Day but a few things got in the way of that.
- Not enough valentine’s decor that was my style. A lot of it seemed cheesy, plastic-y, and cheap (not in a good way 😉 )
- I didn’t want to doll it all up for v-day just to have it bare again after the holiday.
Incorporating more versatile pieces like understated bowls and plates, as well as faux plants (I can never get enough), allowed me to create a look that notes on whimsical valentine’s decor, but also transitions well into the next half of the year with statements that will flow into Spring and Summer.
For the decor on the hutch handles, the pink heart and the kisses for 25 cents sign are from Hobby Lobby.
I found Hobby Lobby had the cutest valentine’s decor, at least in my area. The other two hearts are from Michael’s. They are a steal of a deal, they were 50 cents each! I also got a chalkboard heart for 50 cents and it’s hanging on my new fridge.
The official theme for my hutch is Kisses & Cacti. It popped in my head after buying my kisses sign and being gravitated around everything that had a cactus on it.
The lavender spring bird and the bundled up winter bird like to hang out and chat about February.
You’ll notice a few buddhas found their way in here. For a little over a month now, I’ve been practicing meditation. I’m absolutely still a beginner but I’m learning a lot and really loving it. I plan to make a post about it soon so stay tuned 🙂
Hope you’ve enjoyed my hutch decorated for Valentine’s Day and early spring. Mostly all decor came from Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, Target, and Home Goods. If you have a question about a specific item, let me know in the comments and I’ll get back to you.
I had some fun getting the chalkboard in the kitchen ready for Valentine’s Day. Psst.. there is a DIY chalkboard blog post in the making
